2007 Pitchfork Music Festival Lineup
March 25th, 2007
I’m not really sure how I missed out the announcement of the 2007 lineup that will be at the spectacular Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago. Well better late then never, so here’s the list and dates of performers attending the festival in lovely Union Park.
Friday, July 13
- Don’t Look Back
- Sonic Youth (Daydream Nation)
Saturday, July 14
- Cat Power
Clipse- Iron & Wine
- Girl talk
- Grizzly Bear
- Professor Murder
Sunday, July 15
- Of Montreal
- Jamie Lidell
- Ken Vandermark’s Powerhouse Sound
Very solid artist lineup at Pitchfork in 07. Saturday looks like a pretty bad ass day, and then there’s a solid wrap up Saturday with Of Montreal and Jamie Lidell. So if you’re in the Chitown area that weekend, look into getting some day tickets. The discounted three day tickets are already sold out, but a little spendier day tickets will still be available.
Ben Gibbard Solo Tour
March 3rd, 2007
Ben Gibbard, the man that makes Death Cab For Cutie and Postal Service, just announced a solo tour in May. Joining him will be David Bazan (Pedro the Lion) and Jonathan Rice (not formerly with anyone else really, besides himself).
Gibbard hasn’t worked much with Death Cab for Cutie lately, and bandmate Chris Walla has already decided to try his luck as a solo artist. His side project Postal Service with Tamborella hasn’t done much either, so Gibbard’s taking his oppurtunity to go solo a bit.
I think this is his first solo tour, but it’s not his first time playing alone. He was previously solo on Home Volume Five with Andrew Kenny. He made some pretty good music then too.
So if you’re a Death Cab and postal service fan, don’t be shy about attending a solo gig of his if he’s in your backyard. The tour schedule is below.
May 2007
3 - Minneapolis, MN - First Avenue
4 - Chicago, IL - Metro
5 - Detroit, MI - Majestic Theatre
7 - Somerville, MA - Somerville Theatre
8 - New York, NY - The Town Hall
9 - Philadelphia, PA - Theatre of Living Arts
11 - Carrboro, NC - Cat’s Cradle
12 - Atlanta, GA - Center Stage
13 - Nashville, TN - City Hall
14 - Dallas, TX - Granada Theater
15 - Austin, TX - Emo’s
17 - Los Angeles, CA - Royce Hall
18 - San Francisco, CA - The Fillmore
19 - Portland, OR - Roseland Theatre
20 - Seattle, WA - Showbox

It’s a pretty decent lineup, but honestly, I don’t think it really compares to last years offering. Last year featured Sufjan Stevens, Ben Harper, Death Cab for Cutie, Matisyahu, Jamie Liddell, Iron and Wine, and the Shins! Granted, it is nearly impossible to follow a lineup with those artists.
Sufjan Stevens and My Brightest Diamond
February 9th, 2007
Sufjan has recently reviewed a live performance of fellow Asthmatic Kitty artist My Brightest Diamond. Yes, Sufjan actually wrote this review himself. As I’m sure I’ve expressed before, Sufjan Stevens can do whatever he wants.
Let me warn you, his surprisingly entertaining essay on the My Brightest Diamond Performance does get a bit long at five well developed paragraphs. But if you’re a big Sufjan fan, you’ll only gain more appreciation for who he is after reading it.
Enough of my ramblings, It can be found in full here.
Not too long ago, Sufjan Stevens and My Brightest Diamond made the news together when it was announced they’ll both be playing at the Music Now Festival. The Music Now Festival is looking pretty salty this year as it’s hosting several indie artists I am fond of.
Among the ranks include Sufjan Stevens, My Brightest Diamond, Sigur Rós Protégés Amiina, David Cossin, Clogs, Pedro Soler, and Irena and Vojtech Havel.
Rufus Wainwright to have Christmas Show
November 22nd, 2006
Pitchfork Media has a story on Rufus Wainwright and his sister hosting a Christmas show December 13 at Carnegie Hall. Last year Rufus was involved with “The McGarrigle Christmas Hour” a similar Christmas show.

Somehow, I didn’t hear about the McGarrigle show last year, and I’m considering ordering it at Amazon. It sounds like a good Christmas album.
An interesting excerpt from the Pitchfork article is
Will they be wearing ugly Christmas sweaters? “Perhaps. Either that or a loud tie. A tie that you never wear that your aunt gave you.”
I found that amusing, as the thought of Christmas carols and family get together immediately brings up the image of tacky clothing. Anyways..Rufus is planning on organizing an opera for New York’s Metropolitan Opera after this show. Impressive.
AMA American Music Awards Snow Patrol
November 21st, 2006
I know everyone’s been long awaiting this night. The American Music Awards are finally on tonight. Hooray…
Not surprisingly, no artists that I have a real interest in were nominated for any awards. Who’d a thunk it? But there is actually one bright spot in the show tonight: Snow Patrol will be performing Chasing Cars.(YouTube Link) Snow Patrol has made a subtle leap into the mainstream as it’s been featured on Grey’s Anatomy, as well as other shows.
Good for them I suppose… I just thought I’d give people a heads up that Snow Patrol would be performing. Peace.
